Like the “Like” button
One of the most recognizable icons in the online space, the Facebook “Like” button has become part and parcel of the company’s brand. “Liking” a page on Facebook is a way to provide positive feedback and to connect with things that the user cares about on the social media site. It also allows the user to connect to content through social plugins or advertisements both on Facebook itself... Read More

Redefining the retail bank: Dot FNB
FNB continue to build competitive advantage over their Big Four counterparts. Recently they’ve rewired their offering and communication to focus on benefits and value. In another milestone they have just launched their new branch concept: Dot FNB is a high-tech, service geared, cashless environment (except for ATMs) that’s said to be “a whole new level in banking efficiency”. The... Read More

Chupa Chups – designed by sucker for cash, Salvador Dali
Here’s an interesting fact: the iconic identity for the pioneers of sweets on sticks, Chupa Chups, was designed by Salvidor Dali. Apparently he insisted on positioning the logo on top instead of on the side.. creating the classic top down view of these lovely suckers. Read More

Johnny Cash Project: reinventing the music video
Picked this up at Design Indaba: The Johnny Cash project may be the coolest music video I’ve ever seen, in that it’s constantly reinterpreted and made by the fans. Chris Milk, a music video director, who conceptualised the project with Aaron Koblin (a real time data visualization guru), said that music was such a personal experience, while music videos mostly depict the directors own interpretation... Ideas to Successfully Reach Consumers in Africa
After twelve years of building brands in Africa and over 100 trips throughout the continent, Gary Harwood shares some of his personal insights into the secrets to marketing success. George Kimble, the famous American geographer was so right when... Read More

Thumbs down on thumbs up
A disturbing trend in advertising seems to come from a misguided idea that mirroring Facebook and social media’s iconography in ads will somehow make brands more relevant to today’s hyper connected consumer. Kia seem to have based their whole current international communication campaign around the idea of “like” and individuality. The TV ads are so awful we wont even show them... Read More

The ANC really did a great job of publicising this piece and exhibition. As hard as it may have been to swallow.. simply ignoring it would have created far less attention and as a result 'defamation'. Personally I think you've made it as a politician when you not only draw the scorn of artists but also ignore it. Andre
Not sure who designed it, but they did tell me they're about to roll out more of these Andre
A really significant investment in retail communication and functional interaction - head and shoulders ahead of the competition - Anybody know who designed it? Is it a one off? R/M sqm? Graham Leigh
I heard that Ad I also immedialy associated it to an attck on ABSA. I do however think that if comparitive advertising is done is subtle and clever was such as in this case, we need not be over sensitive. We all afterall knew who FNB was bashing their Steve campaing, its all the other 3 banks with Absa included. Lazola
