Designing the deceased
One of the most interesting and wonderfully simple pieces of information design I’ve encountered exists in Maldivian cemeteries.. in the headstones of graves to be more precise.
Here males’ headstones have a point on the top, those of females don’t and the size of the stone is directly related to the deceased’s age. This means at a scan you can get a sense of who is buried where. A big pointy gravestone is an old man, a small round gravestone is a girl.
